The Charli XCX rollout continues. This month we have already seen the release of “Rock Music” and its b-side “I Keep Thinking About You Every Single Day And Night,” followed by “SS26.” Now, the b-side to that latest release, “Playboy Bunny,” has arrived.
Like “I Keep Thinking About You Every Single Day And Night,” “Playboy Bunny” is currently only available on her b-sides Instagram account and on limited edition 7″ vinyl. Charli XCX rung in this new era by announcing a pivot to rock music, then backtracking by saying, “i never said i was making a rock album.” But “Playboy Bunny”? It is undeniably rock music. More specifically, it is a sassy shoegaze anthem. It features fuzzy, atmospheric guitars and lyrics like, “All my music sounds the same/ Well, that’s because I made it.” It is a track that feels too good to be relegated to a b-side, but perhaps all this fuss is simply part of the promotional cycle before it eventually hits streaming services.
