Steve Perry has chosen a very appropriately titled song to cover while in self-quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic.

On Friday (April 17), the former Journey frontman shared a YouTube video of himself singing a gorgeous a capella rendition of The Beach Boys‘ 1963 classic song “In My My Room.” Watch below.

“When I was a teenager, isolating in my room, this song gave me comfort,” Perry captioned the video. “Stay safe.”

Perry’s long hiatus from music arrived in 2018 with the release of his solo album, Traces. The set marked his first new album in 25 years. The former Journey singer previously told Billboard that his retreat from the spotlight was out of necessity, even though he knew his fans would be disappointed.

“It was something I had to do because I had lost my passion for the music that I love so much and I wasn’t gonna just keep going with some empty sort of connection,” Perry said. “I didn’t know if it was gonna come back, to be honest with you. So I just kept going and then years go by and the further away I got from it, the more I thought I’ll just keep going that way.”

Perry reunited with his former Journey bandmates on stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 2017, but he did not perform with the group. The singer hasn’t played a full concert since his 1995 solo tour, according to Rolling Stone.
