Slipknot officially confirmed their split with Sid Wilson in a new statement on social media today (Aug. 14), though the band has since deleted the post. While rumors of the separation had been circulating for weeks, this marked the first formal acknowledgment from the group.
"Effective immediately, Slipknot will no longer be associated with Sid Wilson. We wish him the best in his future endeavors," the deleted statement read.
The band provided no further context regarding the specific reasons for the split. The announcement follows a series of reports, including an initial July 31 report from TMZ, which alleged that Wilson had been permanently removed from the lineup. Subsequent reports from the outlet suggested that the decision stemmed from behavioral issues, though the band has maintained a tight-lipped approach to the internal conflict.
In the wake of the initial rumors, guitarist Jim Root took to his Instagram Story to urge fans to exercise caution, stating, "Don’t believe everything you read. Stop. Think. Take a breath. Sit with it for awhile. Maybe. Just maybe even wait until there’s more information."
The situation has been further complicated by public social media activity from Kelly Osbourne, who is engaged to Wilson. Osbourne reportedly posted and deleted several stories that appeared to be directed at the musician during the height of the speculation.
Despite the turmoil, Wilson appeared to be moving forward with his professional commitments. As recently as Aug. 12, he introduced himself as "No. 0, from the world famous Slipknot" while co-hosting the inaugural World Scratch Invitational in Atlantic City, N.J.
Wilson joined Slipknot in 1998, becoming an integral part of the band’s identity as their turntablist. Known as No. 0, he contributed to all seven of the band’s studio albums, spanning from their 1999 self-titled debut to 2022’s The End, So Far. His departure marks the end of a significant era for the metal icons.
