Fog Lake Announces New Album ‘Hollowbody’, Shares Lead Single ‘Bogus’

Fog Lake, the project of Montreal-based, Newfoundland-raised musician Aaron Powell, is back. Today, he has announced his seventh album Hollowbody, the follow-up to 2023’s Midnight Society, alongside the release of the new single “Bogus.” The new album is slated for release next month.

Hollowbody was a rapid creative endeavor, coming together within just three weeks. The project was co-produced, mixed, and mastered by longtime collaborator Warren Hildebrand of Foxes In Fiction. Powell notes that the album’s distinct sonic character was heavily influenced by a vintage piece of equipment he acquired. “I bought this Tascam amp simulator from the 80s off of eBay which has a quick and easy ‘analog’ recording button — it really shaped the sound and feel of the songs I was writing,” he explained.

The lead single, “Bogus,” thrives on the tension between Powell’s delicate vocal delivery, jaunty acoustic strums, and a scratchy guitar solo that bristles to life at the song’s conclusion. Lyrically, the track explores themes of fragmented relationships, misunderstandings, and the quiet melancholy of dead cigarettes. Powell offered a candid reflection on the song’s inspiration, stating, “It’s about bad luck. I’ve had a lot of luck in my life, but never with lovers.”
