Maya Rudolph opened for Vampire Weekend this weekend, and marked the occasion by covering the viral TikTok hit ‘One Margarita’ – watch the footage below.
The SNL star performs in the Prince covers band Princess, alongside the musician Gretchen Lieberum, and they supported the New York band at the Huntington Bank Pavilion in Chicago on Friday and Saturday (July 26 and 27).
Alongside Prince classics including ‘Let’s Go Crazy’, ‘When You Were Mine’, ‘Little Red Corvette’ and ‘1999’, Princess’ set on Friday indulged in a medley that included the theme songs to The Golden Girls, Cheers and Super Mario, as well as ‘One Margarita’.
The latter was a comedy TikTok song released in 2023 by the US comedian That Chick Angel, aka Angel Laketa Moore, who is known for appearances on A Black Lady Sketch Show.

Vampire Weekend appeared on Saturday Night Live in May, on the same episode that Rudolph herself hosted, so it is likely that the deal for the shows came together then.
During their appearance, the New York indie rockers played ‘Gen-X Cops’ and ‘Capricorn’, tracks from their latest album ‘Only God Was Above Us’.
The same episode saw Rudolph bring back her her sketch parodying Beyoncé taking on the Hot Ones challenge.
Reviewing ‘Only God Was Above Us’, NME wrote: “Despite its sentimental homages to the history of their hometown, ‘Only God Was Above Us’ isn’t a nostalgic album. Rather than adopting an overly rose tinted view of the past to cope with the present, Koenig seems to be fine with embracing that things just aren’t that great.
“And, in some ways, this brand of thinking can be interpreted as optimism – especially for a band intrinsically linked to the ‘before times’.”
Vampire Weekend are due to hit the road for their 2024 UK and Ireland tour later this year. You can buy any remaining tickets here.
