thistle. Unleash High-Octane New Single “pylon”

A High-Energy Return

The UK-based grungegaze trio thistle. is gearing up for the release of their highly anticipated backflip EP, scheduled to arrive next month. Following the release of previous singles “tied” and “pieces,” the band has returned today with a new, high-octane track titled “pylon.”

Described by the band as a “ripper,” the song draws inspiration from the iconic energy drink Monster. According to the trio, the track was the final piece of music written before they entered the studio, having been crafted during a spontaneous session in a Cardiff, Wales rehearsal space.

The Power of Caffeine

The band offers a candid look into the song’s origins, noting that its aggressive, driving sound is directly linked to their beverage of choice during the writing process. “Very much powered by Monster Energy,” the band explains. “I genuinely credit the song to the energy drink. It’s not a drink we particularly enjoy but it was the only high-caffeine beverage available at the time. Do what you can — write what you can — when in Cardiff!”

Clocking in at just two and a half minutes, “pylon” is a masterclass in efficiency. It is defined by turbulent, hazy riffs that command attention, creating a sonic landscape that feels both urgent and immersive. The track leaves listeners wanting to linger in its heavy, distorted embrace long after the final note fades.

Fans can look forward to the full backflip EP, which is set for release on May 29 via REX RECS.
