The momentum behind Spacemoth’s upcoming project, Inward Eye, continues to build with the release of the latest single, “Telepathic Butterflies.” Following the success of previous tracks like “Do We Exist?” and “Internet Fantasy,” Maryam Qudus delivers another compelling preview of what promises to be a standout record when it arrives at the end of the month.
“Telepathic Butterflies” is anchored by a hypnotic, driving pulse, layered with the signature squelchy synths that have become a hallmark of the Spacemoth sound. Amidst this colorful, mechanical backdrop, Qudus weaves gorgeous, ethereal melodies that ground the track in human emotion.
In a recent interview with Tape Op, Qudus revealed the deeply personal inspiration behind the album’s creation. “While I was writing these songs, I was also in the midst of archiving VHS home videos of my family,” she explained. “The videos would play in the background while I digitized them in the room adjacent to the studio. I would catch glimpses of my younger self and my family in a different era of our lives, which informed the writing for Inward Eye.” This context adds a profound layer of nostalgia and intimacy to the mesmerizing soundscapes presented on the track.
