Mura Masa has announced his fourth studio album ‘Curve 1’ – listen to the new single ‘FLY’ below.

The electronic producer, songwriter and DJ is due to release the follow-up to 2022’s ‘Demon Time’ on Friday August 23 via his own label, Pond Recordings. You can pre-order/pre-save it here.

The forthcoming collection is described as a “dark departure from the pop-leaning narratives” of Mura Masa’s most recent two albums, and will be “presented in a way that lets listeners make their own interpretation of its nocturnal roots”.

Speaking about LP in a statement, the artist explained: “‘Curve 1’ is ultimately a manifestation of an attitude I’ve been cultivating in my personal life; ignore everything. All the content, all of the attention economy, all of it.

“In doing that, the really meaningful and vital parts of what’s around you make themselves known and unignorable, demanding your energy.”

The album will mark Mura Masa’s first offering as an independent artist. He went on to say that he “wanted it to be as free and anti-narrative as possible” as well as “impressionistic”.

“Music as entertainment has in many cases, to me, become very advertorial and excessively sentimental in terms of creating narrative around albums and artists,” he continued.

“I wanted to strip this away as much as possible to leave room for the music to create its own meaning in the lives of people who form connections with it.”

Mura Masa added: “It’s hard for me not to explain away the intricacies and ideas contained within these records after having theorised and tolled and executed them over the course of nearly three years, but I think it’s far more fitting of the album’s intent to say simply: listen to it in the dark.”

Arriving this week, the uplifting-yet-gritty ‘FLY’ is “a tensely vibrant love letter to club spaces [and] club music”, and captures the “immersive energy” of ‘Curve 1’ on the whole.

It follows on from the 2024 singles ‘We Are Making Out’ and ‘Still’, and last year’s tracks ‘Rise’, ‘Gimme’, ‘Drugs’ and ‘Whenever I Want’.

Next month will see Mura Masa play a DJ set at Field Day 2024 in Victoria Park, London. Justice and PinkPantheress are set to headline this year’s event.
