This year’s holiday season is proving to be particularly special for fans of Olivia Rodrigo. Following the June release of her acclaimed third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, the singer-songwriter has officially unveiled her first-ever Christmas song, titled “take me home (4 christmas).”
The track was produced by Dan Nigro, who co-wrote the song alongside Rodrigo and Amy Allen. The composition draws subtle inspiration from the classic holiday sound of The Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping.” This release follows a busy year for the artist, including last month’s playful remix of “expectations” with Chappell Roan, which featured a notable music video appearance by David Byrne.
The release of “take me home (4 christmas)” is accompanied by a music video that leans into Rodrigo’s well-documented love for television nostalgia. The visual features appearances by Sex And The City star Cynthia Nixon and SNL cast member Ben Marshall.
Rodrigo has previously spoken about the influence of Sex And The City on her songwriting process. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon earlier this year, she noted that the show’s emotional beats, particularly the relationship between Miranda and Steve, served as a catalyst for her creative output. “There’s actually multiple songs that are inspired by Miranda and Steve,” she shared, highlighting how the show’s dialogue often translates into her own lyrical narratives.
