On the second episode of Season 4 of Paranormal Prison, The Used join hosts Josh Bernstein and Katrina Weidman on a haunted tour of one of the world’s most infamously haunted locations. Filmed at the 2026 Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival, the episode brings the band into the decaying halls of the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield, Ohio, to face the unknown.
Paranormal Prison is known for pairing true believers with staunch skeptics, utilizing advanced equipment to investigate claims of spectral activity. During their session, the band utilized a “dead bell” to communicate with potential spirits. While initial inquiries regarding former prisoners yielded no results, a direct question about whether a spirit had been a guard was met with a distinct, audible response.
Personal Encounters With the Supernatural
The members of The Used are no strangers to the paranormal. Singer Bert McCracken shared his own unsettling experiences, noting that he once lived in a residence previously inhabited by Charlie Chaplin in the early 1900s. “It had to have been haunted,” McCracken recalled. “I used to hear the doors slam all the time. There was this really, really long staircase that nobody dared to go down. We’d hear the door slam at the bottom all the time.”
Bassist Jepha Howard also recounted a chilling experience from his past, describing a house he lived in that felt “full haunted.” He detailed a specific incident involving a touring companion who woke up to find every square object in his room balanced precariously on an angle, including his passport, despite the room being locked.
The History of the Ohio State Reformatory
The investigation took place at the historic Ohio State Reformatory, a site with a dark and storied past. Construction on the prison began in 1886, and it remained operational from 1896 through 1990. Beyond its reputation for paranormal activity, the facility is also famous for its appearance in the classic film The Shawshank Redemption.
Today, the prison serves as a popular destination for tourism and hosts the annual Inkcarceration Music & Tattoo Festival, a cornerstone event for Danny Wimmer Presents. The festival brings a unique energy to the grounds, blending the heavy music scene with the site’s haunting history.
