Mastodon Announce First Post-Brent Hinds Album, ‘Marrow Deep’

A New Chapter for Mastodon

Mastodon have officially announced their first studio album since parting ways with longtime guitarist and co-vocalist Brent Hinds. The new 12-song collection, titled Marrow Deep, is set for an August 28, 2026, release. To mark the announcement, the band has unveiled a new single and music video for the track “Snakes for Dinner,” which features a guest appearance from Josh Homme.

In a statement shared via their social media channels, the band expressed their excitement for the upcoming record: “It’s been quite the journey making this album, and we are very happy with how it came out. We can not wait for you to hear the whole thing!”

Hello Everyone, You have all been asking for it, so we are excited to announce our new album, Marrow Deep, will be released August 28th, 2026 and we are kicking it off with a new video for our new song ‘Snakes for Dinner,’ which features an appearance from our long time friend, Josh Homme.

The Emotional Weight of ‘Marrow Deep’

The album promises to be a deeply personal project for the remaining members. According to the official pre-order description, Marrow Deep is “equal parts crushing and cathartic,” finding the band pushing their sound into new depths. The record serves as a testament to the profound impact of those we lose, channeling grief into an emotionally charged musical experience that emphasizes resilience and solidarity.

Following the departure and subsequent passing of Brent Hinds in August 2025, the band has navigated a period of significant transition. While they experimented with various guitarists, they have since solidified their lineup with Nick Johnston, who is featured prominently in the new video for “Snakes for Dinner.”

‘Snakes for Dinner’ and Future Touring

The new single, “Snakes for Dinner,” maintains the band’s signature trippy, atmospheric aesthetic. The accompanying video, directed by DEATHCATS, depicts a surreal dinner party that descends into a hallucinogenic experience. The track is bolstered by the late-song arrival of Josh Homme, who adds a distinct, haunting texture to the composition.

As the release date approaches, the band is preparing to return to the road. Their upcoming tour is scheduled to kick off on September 16 in Orlando, with a final performance slated for October 24 at the Sick New World festival in Fort Worth, Texas. The tour will feature support from Deafheaven and Alcest.
