Cardi B and Offset went head-to-head on Friday (June 20) with dueling singles that stirred up heated reactions across social media.
Cardi B dropped “Outside,” her first solo release of the year, a bold post-divorce anthem that doubles as a declaration of independence and a not-so-subtle jab at her ex.
The track, teased for months and fueled by leaked snippets, marks a return to music as she gears up for her long-awaited sophomore album.
“I’m back outside,” she raps, signaling her reentry into the spotlight after what she calls being “cuffed up too long.”
Cardi B Seemingly Shades Offset
The lyrics take direct aim at a former partner many believe is Offset, with lines like “ain’t s###,” “gon’ f### on anything,” and “Good-for-nothing, low-down dirty dogs.”
She doesn’t hold back, adding, “Next time you see your mama, tell her how she raised a b####.”
Cardi also references her rumored new relationship with NFL star Stefon Diggs, rapping, “Favorite player from your favorite team, he in my DM. I’m so small and tiny, he so big and tall,” and “Heard them Patriots got them n#####, let me in the locker room.”
She even gives a shoutout to Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson: “And some ladies out in Vegas, A’ja Wil’, what’s poppin’, boo?”
Offset, meanwhile, released “Bodies” featuring JID on the same day, a move that many saw as a musical counterpunch.
The timing of the dual drops added fuel to the ongoing narrative surrounding their split, which has played out publicly over the past year.
Listeners quickly took sides online. One user wrote, “Cardi B was holding Offset back from his greatness. The last time he made music like this was 2017 (Culture II). And who did he meet in 2017? Exactly…”
Another praised Cardi’s return to form: “Cardi u done out f###### did yourself now that’s what I’m talking bout. Keep this energy and keep this heat coming.”
A third summed it up with: “Cardi & Offset dropped fire. Divorce is doing them well…”
