In a surprising turn of events, AC/DC made an appearance at a pop-up event in Toronto this week, where one lucky fan had the legendary guitarist Angus Young autograph their baby. The event, originally intended to offer fans a chance to purchase exclusive merchandise and view band memorabilia—including one of Young’s iconic stage-worn schoolboy uniforms—took an unforgettable turn when the band members themselves arrived to greet the crowd.
While these types of fan experiences typically do not feature the artists, the band made an exception on Wednesday night. Attendees were treated to a rare opportunity to interact with the rock icons as they signed various items, ranging from classic records to, in this instance, a young fan’s child. The surprise appearance comes on the heels of a disappointing week for Toronto concertgoers. Last week, it was announced that the band’s scheduled performance at Rogers Stadium would not take place due to “significant damage” caused by a severe thunderstorm. The venue described the weather event as a “100-year storm,” noting that a suspected microburst with extreme winds and heavy rainfall made it impossible to safely host the concert, which was slated to be the third-to-last stop on the band’s extensive 90-date Power Up tour.
“The safety of our fans, artists, crew and venue staff remains our highest priority,” the venue stated following the cancellation. “Every effort was made to find potential solutions for the show to move forward in Toronto, but unfortunately we were unable to find an alternative venue that could accommodate everyone.”
Despite the cancellation, the band’s tour is nearing its conclusion. AC/DC has just two remaining dates on their current itinerary: September 25 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and September 29 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
