Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi is set to appear on Robbie Williams’ new “guitar rock” album.

The news was revealed by the former Take That singer’s drummer and musical director Karl Brazil on the Percussion Discussion podcast, when he spoke about the unlikely musical collaboration.

“He’s got an album to follow that we’ve been working on,” he shared. “He’s working with various people, but I’ve been fortunate enough to do some songs with him.

“We’ve done a track called Rocket with Tony [Iommi], which is very random,” the musician added. He shared that the track is “great” and “a rocker and really cool”.

“Tony has done his thing on it,” he said of the guitarist

He also revealed that SupergrassGaz Coombes – who joined him on stage over the summer – is among “some great collaborations” on the record.

“It’s predominately a guitar record, a bit of a throwback to his old 90s sound but mixed with a bit of modern day pop as well,” he shared. “Let’s face it, (Robbie) can do what he wants can’t he?!”

Brazil also shared a few more hints about what to expect from Williams’ new record, including that it’s “predominantly a guitar record”.

It’s no secret that Williams is a fan of more rock-leaning music, having last year featured on Soft Play’s comeback single ‘Punk’s Dead’. Speaking to Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1, Soft Play said that Williams was a fan of the band and wanted to collaborate in some way.

He also pulled off another wildcard collaboration over the summer when he performed Blur’s ‘Parklife’ with Danny Dyer at BST Hyde Park.

It comes after Williams revealed earlier this year that he’d “written loads of songs” and is feeling “full of purpose and loving life”.

The ‘Rock DJ’ singer made the comments during an interview with Virgin Radio, where he insisted that he is feeling more “ambitious” than ever before, and has written lots of new material.

More recently, Williams told fans that a new album is coming soon and revealed that he is also working on “building hotels”.

He spoke about the hopes of new material while at a screening of his new biopic Better Man in the US – which comes nearly a year after the release of a Netflix documentary series about his life – and said that he was “waiting to know when exactly the film [was] coming out before” announcing anything about a new album.

Meanwhile, in Black Sabbath news, band co-founders Iommi and Bill Ward recently shared a new photo together, which comes in the midst of rumours about the possibility of a one-off reunion show from the band.
