Natalie Bergman, known for her work with Wild Belle, has been steadily carving out a distinct solo career throughout the 2020s. Following the success of her 2025 album My Home Is Not In This World, which showcased a captivating blend of retro pop, soul, and folk, the artist is set to return with a new project. Today, Bergman officially announced her upcoming EP, I Killed A North American Songbird, a title that is as provocative as it is intriguing.
The five-song collection is slated for release in early November. To build anticipation, Bergman has shared the project’s opening track, “White Oak,” accompanied by a new music video. Produced by Ben Lumsdaine, the track is a woozy, off-kilter soul ballad that masterfully manipulates vintage textures with a modern sensibility. Bergman’s evocative lyrics—”Alone in the wilderness/ You were born to make beautiful things / We laid his body in the ground / You played the melody on baritone”—anchor the song’s haunting atmosphere.
The music video for “White Oak,” directed by Andreas Ekelund, features performances by dancers Staz Lindes, Sandi Denton, and June Tate. You can watch the official video below.
The tracklist for the EP is as follows:
- 01 “White Oak”
- 02 “Indigo Bunting”
- 03 “Disappearing”
- 04 “The Way That You Love Me”
- 05 “Peregrine Falcon”
I Killed A North American Songbird is scheduled for release on November 6 via Third Man Records.
