Sløtface have shared the fiery new single ‘I Used To Be A Real Piece Of Shit’.

The Norwegian act – as of 2022 a solo project under Haley Shea – said the song pulled inspiration from sketch shows and 100 gecs‘ song ‘Dumbest Girl Alive’. The track opens their new album, ‘Film Buff’, which is set for release via Propeller on September 27. You can pre-order / pre-save it here.

“I was completely obsessed with Tim Robinson’s show I Think You Should Leave last summer and watched all the seasons about four times, laughing hysterically,” said frontwoman Shea in a statement.

“In the middle of this obsession, the sketch where he says ‘I used to be a piece of shit’ jumped out, and I thought it would make a great lyric, so I saved it in my little idea bank on my phone.

“I just wanted to make it fun and silly and over the top. It also makes me think of all the people that are out here working on themselves, always trying to better, going to therapy etc, me included, and it poses the question – do we really change all that much? It’s a song for everyone that used to be a piece of shit, who’s working on it, who’s still kind of a piece of shit in some ways and that’s ok!”

The tongue-in-cheek track opens with the wry declaration: “Confessions of a full-blown narcissist/I guess all the attention really went to my head/Not easy being six foot tall, a leggy blonde/Dressed like wonder woman at her day job.”

It was written by Shea in collaboration with Swedish songwriter and producer Daniel Hedberg and Simen Følstad Nilsen, with production coming from Hedberg and Preben Sælid Andersen.

Shea previously told NME she liked keeping things “light, fun and energetic”, adding that it was “important for me to let everything be open and experiment with different things”.
