San Francisco-based artist Hana Freed, who records under the moniker Tricky FM, has officially announced her upcoming album, Twin Star Fantasy. The project is slated for a fall release, promising a shift in tone from her previous work. As a first look at the record, Freed has shared the lead single, “Sugar In My Drink,” which is available now.
The new track serves as a compelling introduction to the album’s aesthetic. Featuring a sophisticated blend of misty synths, kinetic breakbeats, and breathy, holographic vocals, the song evokes a soundscape reminiscent of early Grimes. It offers a refreshing, chilly endorphin rush that feels particularly well-suited for the current summer heat.
Whereas Freed’s previous effort, Peace, Love, Unity, Rave, functioned as an intense, cathartic reckoning with the systemic misogyny prevalent in the music industry, Twin Star Fantasy is reportedly a more introspective and placid affair.
