Of the many great underground rock bands currently populating Cincinnati, The Drin may be the toughest to pin down. The group initially came on the radar playing a fried, bleary, and extremely confident hybrid of throwback psych and post-punk, sounding equally like Can and The Fall. That sound worked wonders for them, but as time has progressed, they have incorporated more classic rock elements into their sonic palette, and that evolution is paying off.
That creative pivot continues with “Haven’t Lived It Yet,” the lead single from The Drin’s newly announced album, I Lost My Way For Centuries. The upcoming record is a true behemoth, spanning 23 tracks and clocking in at 74 minutes—a classic “fill the CD-R” situation. This early preview evokes the spirit of The Beta Band in all the best ways, presenting a zonked yet regal psych tune that moves gracefully through a sonic storm of torrential midtempo drums, blaring brass, and spiraling lead guitar.
