The enduring legacy of Teenage Fanclub remains a cornerstone of independent music. While the band famously contended with the massive cultural footprint of Nirvana in the early 90s, their own masterpiece, Bandwagonesque, solidified their status as critical darlings and masters of the power-pop craft. Decades later, the Scottish group continues to evolve, proving that their creative engine is far from stalling. With the announcement of their 13th studio album, Do Not Dare To Dream, the band is set to continue their prolific run on Merge Records.
Recorded on the remote Scottish island of Great Bernera, the upcoming project captures a unique atmosphere, even incorporating the local church organ into their signature sound. This latest effort follows their 2023 release, Nothing Lasts Forever, and arrives after a period where members have been busy collaborating with artists like Kim Deal, Hurry, and Joe Pernice.
The lead single, “Day In The Sun,” serves as a masterclass in the band’s ability to craft effortless, hook-laden pop songs. The track balances intricate harmonies with a grounded, folk-inspired gravitas that has become a hallmark of their later work. The accompanying music video, directed by Donald Milne, offers a glimpse into the Great Bernera studio sessions.
Do Not Dare To Dream is scheduled for release on October 9. The tracklist is as follows:
- 01 “There Was You”
- 02 “Tomorrow People”
- 03 “Over And Over”
- 04 “Be With You Tonight”
- 05 “The Same Air”
- 06 “I Do Not Dare To Dream”
- 07 “Take Time”
- 08 “Day In The Sun”
- 09 “Somewhere To Land”
