Last Wednesday, June 24, rock legends Rush encountered an unexpected hurdle during their highly anticipated Fifty Something reunion tour. The band was forced to announce that their scheduled performance at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, would be postponed until July 2, citing unforeseen travel and border-related delays that impacted their equipment. In the wake of the disruption, bassist and vocalist Geddy Lee and guitarist Alex Lifeson have shared a video apology and explanation to address the situation directly with their dedicated fanbase.
A Rare Setback for a Legendary Career
The band, known for their professionalism and longevity, expressed genuine regret over the incident. In a statement posted to their social media channels, the group noted, “We can count on one hand how many shows we had to cancel or postpone in our 50+ year career. It’s not in our nature to do so but sometimes things happen that are completely out of our control.”
Thank you all for understanding! We can count on one hand how many shows we had to cancel or postpone in our 50+ year career. It’s not in our nature to do so but sometimes things happen that are completely out of our control. We appreciate y’all! Now let’s rock Dallas Fort Worth!
In the accompanying video, filmed on-site at Dickies Arena, Lee and Lifeson elaborated on the logistical failure. “We want to sincerely apologize to all those people that were inconvenienced by the mishap that happened coming into the country with our gear,” Lee explained. Lifeson added, “The trucks didn’t get here. Eventually, they did. Everything’s set up, as you can see, and it’s gonna be great.”
Fan Response and Tour Momentum
Despite the disappointment, the reaction from the Rush community has been overwhelmingly compassionate. Many fans who traveled great distances for the performance expressed understanding, with some even sharing their plans to attend the rescheduled date or future shows on the tour. The band’s commitment to their craft remains undeterred, with the group successfully performing at Dickies Arena on June 26, delivering a setlist packed with classics such as “Limelight,” “The Spirit of Radio,” and “YYZ.”
The Fifty Something tour continues to be a massive success, celebrating the band’s half-century legacy and honoring the memory of late drummer Neil Peart. With touring members Anika Nilles and Loren Gold providing a fresh energy to the ensemble, the tour is currently slated to continue through April 2027, bringing the iconic sound of the trio to audiences across North America and beyond.
