Rhys Langston Announces New Album ‘to live and die in E.U.L.A.’

The prolific Los Angeles underground rap staple Rhys Langston has long been recognized for his playful, verbose, and layered approach to hip-hop. Following his 2022 recognition as a Stereogum Artist To Watch, Langston has maintained a steady creative output, including last year’s album Pale Black Negative and his recent summer collaboration with R.A.P. Ferreira and nahhphet on “Sound Of Horns.” Now, the artist is preparing to release a new LP titled to live and die in E.U.L.A., offering fans a first glimpse with two new tracks.

While details regarding the project remain sparse—including the meaning behind the titular acronym—the title itself serves as a nod to a William Friedkin classic. On his Bandcamp, Langston shared the new tracks “my grandmother’s pecan tree” and “it’s the fadeout…” which showcase his signature poetic precision.

Both new songs feature production from the young producer pty, with “my grandmother’s pecan tree” also featuring a guest appearance from fellow LA-based underground rapper Kwame Adu. The tracks are characterized by a blissfully calm atmosphere, allowing listeners to either dissect the dense lyrical layers or simply drift along with Langston’s rhythmic delivery.
