Following the departure of lead singer Scott Kelly after he admitted to abusing his wife and children in 2022, Neurosis has successfully reshaped their identity with a new frontman, Aaron Turner of Sumac and Old Man Gloom. Despite the deeply upsetting circumstances surrounding the band’s transition, the post-metal icons have returned with renewed intensity. Earlier this year, the group released their surprise album An Undying Love For A Burning World, and last night, they finally marked their return to the stage with their first performance in seven years.
The band headlined the Fire In The Mountains festival, held on Blackfeet Nation at Red Eagle Campground in East Glacier Park, Montana. The set was presented by the youth suicide prevention charity Firekeeper Alliance. Their 10-song performance leaned heavily into material from their latest record, while also revisiting classic tracks such as “The Tide” from 2001’s A Sun That Never Sets, “Lost” from 1993’s Enemy Of The Sun, “Distill (Watching the Swarm)” from 2007’s Given To The Rising, and “End Of The Harvest” from 1999’s Times Of Grace.
