Lowertown Share New Song “Worst Friend”: Listen

Lowertown is gearing up for the release of their new album, Ugly Duckling Union, and the anticipation is building. Following the success of their previous singles, the eccentric gem “Big Thumb” and the oddball love song “I Like You A Lot,” the duo has unveiled their latest track, “Worst Friend.” It is a classically catchy, quiet-to-loud rocker that showcases the band’s evolving sound.

Regarding the inspiration behind the new track, Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg shared that the song was crafted with their folk influences in mind, citing legends like June and Johnny Cash, as well as Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. The lyrics explore the consequences of lacking self-awareness and accountability, detailing how such shortcomings can lead to self-sabotage and the inevitable alienation of those around you. These themes of inner darkness and aimlessness are central to the narrative of Ugly Duckling Union.

Based on the singles released thus far, Ugly Duckling Union appears to be a cohesive concept album. The interplay between Osby and Weinberg is particularly striking, as they trade lines in a dialogue-like fashion that feels both intimate and dramatic. The chorus offers a cathartic release when their voices harmonize, complemented by a compelling outro. The accompanying music video, directed by Jaxon Ray, further emphasizes the track’s melodramatic flair.

Ugly Duckling Union is set for release on May 22 via Summer Shade.
