James Palko Returns With New Film Major Single “The Board”

The Queens-based musician James Palko is a busy man. Until recently, Palko played bass in Taking Meds. These days, he leads the power-pop Pretty Rude, who released their debut album Ripe last year. He also releases music under the name Jimmy Montague; his album Tomorrow’s Coffee came out in 2024. And Palko has yet another project, Film Major, who dropped a new track on Sunday.

The Film Major project seems to be devoted to fuzzed-out, lo-fi indie-pop in the vein of ’90s indie heroes like Sebadoh and Guided By Voices. Palko released Film Major’s self-titled debut EP in 2023, and he followed it with the new single “The Board” yesterday. The song itself could almost pass for grunge, and the lyrics evoke the extremely right-now feeling that everyone is out to con you by preying on your own greed: “What are you waiting for? This is it! A sound investment!” Listen to “The Board” below.
