Hear A Track From The Fall’s New Album Recorded Before Mark E. Smith’s Death

When post-punk iconoclast Mark E. Smith passed away from lung and kidney cancer in 2018, the Fall had been working on a new album. Now, that project is finally seeing the light of day. Titled Post Script, the album is preceded by the release of its lead single, “30 Degrees.”

“30 Degrees” was produced by former band members Simon Archer and Ed Blaney, who collaborated on the track alongside the late frontman. According to Blaney, Post Script will consist of nine tracks in total, though an official release date has yet to be confirmed.

The Fall’s final studio effort during Smith’s lifetime was 2017’s New Facts Emerge. The legacy of the band has remained a point of contention in recent years; in 2023, five former members—Si Wolstencroft, Paul Hanley, Steve Hanley, Pete Greenway, and Martin Bramah—launched a new project titled House Of All, a move that reportedly upset Smith’s family.

“30 Degrees” serves as a definitive reminder of the band’s signature sound. You can listen to the track below.
