A New Destination for Music Collectors
While Goodwill has long been a destination for bargain hunters, the organization is now leaning into the resurgence of physical media. The new Rewind store is scheduled to open on September 4 in Matthews, North Carolina, situated approximately 10 miles southeast of Charlotte. Unlike standard donation centers, this location is designed to function as a traditional record store, offering a specialized environment for music lovers.
Inventory and Store Experience
According to Joy Elmore, public relations and communications manager for Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont, the inventory at Rewind will mirror the selection found in independent record shops. Customers can expect to find a wide array of vinyl records, CDs, DVDs, and cassette tapes. Beyond the media itself, the store will stock music-themed apparel, collectibles, vintage audio equipment, game systems, and turntables.
The store aims to provide more than just a retail transaction; it will feature retro arcade games for shoppers to enjoy and a dedicated listening room, allowing enthusiasts to test records before making a purchase.
The Strategy Behind Rewind
This initiative marks the second store under the Rewind banner for the organization, following a successful location that focuses on vintage clothing. When asked about the target demographic for this music-focused expansion, Elmore noted that there is no singular audience, as the store intends to carry titles spanning a vast variety of genres to appeal to all types of collectors.
