Originally pitched by Matt Green of Cleopatra Records as a more comical look at Paul Di’Anno’s colorful personality and legendary status, the reality of the singer’s health battles and his path to recovery steered the narrative toward something far more profound. The arrival of two dedicated fans who facilitated Di’Anno’s medical care in Croatia became the true heart of the documentary.
“I’ve heard some people say that this film is sort of a cautionary tale, and it is. I would say maybe don’t let your pride get the best of you, you know? Don’t be too proud to ask for help when you need it,” Orshoski noted.
The Emotional Core of the Film
The documentary captures pivotal moments in Di’Anno’s life, including his return to the stage and his emotional reunion with former bandmate Steve Harris. Orshoski highlights the moment when Di’Anno learned that the band would cover his medical expenses as a turning point for the film. “That to me is the emotional heart of the film right there when these two guys… come with this news that makes Paul cry,” the director explained.
