Toni Cornell is following in dad Chris Cornell’s footsteps beyond music and into doing good. The 15-year-old announced on Thursday (March 5) that she is donating $20,000 from the proceeds of her cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” — which she and the late Soundgarden frontman recorded together — to support of the International Rescue Committee.
“Nothing compares to you daddy… I will keep the promise and always speak out for those who do not have a voice,” she shared in an Instagram post. “I’m proud and honored to continue your legacy. I love you. I miss you.”
The IRC helps survivors in conflict and disaster areas around the world by providing health care, education, shelter, clean water and more to aid in the rebuilding of their lives.
The young musician made the donation via her parents’ charity, The Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation. The organization was formed in 2012 to help groups that were serving and protecting vulnerable kids worldwide. Toni also donated the proceeds from her song “Far Away Places,” which was produced by the late rocker, to the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
“It’s bittersweet but I’m excited I can share it with you all. It’s very special to me,” the teen explained on Instagram in September after releasing “Places.” “I wrote it for a short film about a very important subject when I was 12 years old with my dad producing it. I hope you love it. All proceeds will be donated to @thenyspcc in honor of my dad.”
