Billy Strings, the arena-packing bluegrass virtuoso and noted metal enthusiast, is currently preparing for a busy season. With his own Ionia Freak Fair festival on the horizon and the impending release of his new album, So Much For Goodbyes—co-produced by the legendary T Bone Burnett—the anticipation surrounding his latest work is palpable. Following the release of the lead single “Burn The Other End,” Strings has now unveiled a haunting new story-song titled “Mill Town Flood.”
In “Mill Town Flood,” Strings adopts the perspective of an alcoholic lumber worker whose life descends into a series of tragic circumstances. While the track possesses the timeless, weathered quality of a traditional folk standard, it is an original composition that showcases his songwriting prowess. The song is a spare, evocative acoustic piece, elevated by the delicate and resonant backup harmonies of Daniel Tashian and Lindsay Lou.
So Much For Goodbyes is scheduled for release on August 28 via Reprise Records.
