The upcoming Canadian indie rock romantic comedy Mile End Kicks is set to arrive this Friday, bringing with it a notable musical contribution. The film, which stars Euphoria actress Barbie Ferreira, has already garnered attention for its soundtrack choices, including the use of MGMT’s “Time To Pretend” in its trailer. Now, the production has unveiled a fresh take on a quintessential Canadian anthem: Avril Lavigne’s cover of Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill hit, “Ironic.”
The film’s official Instagram account announced the track with a nod to the shared heritage of the two artists, stating, “From one Canadian icon to another…. may we introduce: Avril Lavigne’s cover of ‘Ironic’ by Alanis Morissette!” While both singers hail from Ontario, their paths have crossed before; most notably, Lavigne joined Morissette for a live duet of the song at the House Of Blues in Los Angeles back in 2005.
Morissette herself remains active in the cultural conversation, having performed the classic track on Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney last year. Lavigne’s involvement adds a layer of pop-punk nostalgia to the film’s indie-centric atmosphere. You can listen to Lavigne’s rendition of the track below.
