Brooklyn-based band Trinket, the latest signees to Take Care Records, have officially arrived with their infectious new single, “If Not Soon Then Now.” The track showcases the duo’s signature blend of indie rock and jangle pop, a sound that has already earned them opening slots for esteemed acts like The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart and Heavenly. If you haven’t been following their trajectory, this latest release is the perfect entry point into their charming musical world.
Trinket is the creative project of Madison Kate Proffitt and Sean Camargo. Both musicians bring a wealth of experience to the table; Proffitt is a member of Lightheaded and Betty Brite, while Camargo leads the post-punk outfit S.C.A.B. Together, they have crafted a sound that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly immediate.
This song is very directly about starting a relationship with someone new; it’s exciting, but you quickly realize that insecurities, fears, and things you’ve dealt with in past relationships don’t go away just because you’ve started over. It’s also about having something that you’re excited about and are scared you’re going to ruin it with those insecurities. It’s almost like just the fear of it makes your worries come true.
The band has confirmed that their debut LP is slated for release next year. In the meantime, you can experience the infectious energy of “If Not Soon Then Now” via the official video below.
