Most of us know James Ellis Ford as the producer behind some of the most influential UK albums of the past two decades. However, when life presents extreme challenges—such as his recent battle with acute myeloid leukemia—Ford has turned to his own creative voice. Later this month, he will release his second solo LP, Lost In Another World, a project he recorded entirely from a hospital bed while undergoing chemotherapy.
Following the release of his lead single, “Overtones,” Ford has unveiled a new track titled “The Ever After.” The song is a bleepy, ruminative piece of synthpop that highlights his deep roots in dance music, particularly his tenure as one half of Simian Mobile Disco. Despite the gravity of his health situation, the track serves as a profound work of optimism.
It might seem a little odd to be trying to write dance music from a hospital bed, but I was trying to lift my mood and focus on the positive things in my life. In that moment, my mind went to my little eight-year-old boy Frank and the power he has to bring joy into the world and point the way to a better future.
