The city of Providence, Rhode Island, has long maintained a reputation for fostering a scene defined by vast, violent, and unhinged musical output, and the hardcore outfit Peace Test fits perfectly into that lineage. While they may not occupy the same experimental freak-noise space as local legends like Lightning Bolt or Dropdead, Peace Test delivers a brand of fearsome, guttural, classic-style hardcore that pushes speed and intensity to levels rarely seen in the modern era.
Earlier this week, the band officially announced plans to follow up their 2022 full-length debut, Pry, with a new record titled Repercussion. To capture their signature ferocity, the group recorded the project with producer Trevor Vaughan, known for his work with heavy-hitting acts like The Rival Mob and Wound Man. The lead single, “Total Power,” serves as a frantic, two-minute assault that signals a high-octane direction for the upcoming release.
