In the pandemic summer of 2020, four brilliant likeminded musicians on the borderline of jazz and hip-hop announced they’d formed a new supergroup. Dinner Party brought together saxophonist Kamasi Washington, pianist Robert Glasper, and the super-producers Terrace Martin and 9th Wonder. In short order, they released their self-titled debut album and a star-studded revamped edition titled Dinner Party: Dessert. In 2023, the collective returned with their sophomore effort, Enigmatic Society. Now, the group is preparing for a third go-round.
On Monday, the band officially announced their new album, Watchu Bringing?. The lead single is available today, offering a glimpse into the project’s creative direction. Dinner Party serves as a vital outlet for this crew to explore low-stakes, collaborative fun apart from their more prestigious individual endeavors, and “If It Ain’t Broke (Love Wins)” perfectly captures that spirit. The song is an easygoing R&B delight—joyful, jazzy, and smooth. It features vocals by Phoelix, who remains a consistent presence across the group’s discography.
