Kirk Franklin, Mary Mary, Lecrae, Karen Clark Sheard and Fred Hammond are among the artists lending their voices to the cause.
To benefit COVID-19 relief efforts, songwriter-producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins has joined forces with gospel supergroup The Good News on “Come Together.” Major proceeds from the uplifting single, released today (April 24) through RCA Inspiration, will benefit two organizations: the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund and Compassion International.
Collectively, The Good News supergroup comprises 35+ Grammy Awards and 125 Grammy nominations across a lineup of established and rising gospel artists and songwriters. Group members include Kirk Franklin, Lecrae, Fred Hammond, Marvin Sapp, Le’Andria Johnson, Mary Mary (sisters Erica Campbell, Tina Campbell), mother-daughter duos Karen Clark Sheard and Kierra Sheard and Jerkins’ wife Joy Enriquez and daughter Heavenly Joy, sibling group Shelby 5, Tim Bowman Jr., Kelontae Gavin and newcomer Jac Ross.
“Come Together” was written by Jerkins (who also produced the song), the late LaShawn “Big Shiz” Daniels, Jazz Nixon and Lecrae. In a statement announcing the single, Jerkins notes, “With all that’s going on in our world, I felt it was time to give back by going back to my gospel roots. The world is in a place of chaos, confusion and fear but with God on our side, directing our lives, this too shall pass. In these times of social distancing, I believe through God, love, family and music we can still come together.”
