Watch Lars Ulrich's Sons Cover The Beatles 'Eleanor Rigby'

If you need proof that talent doesn’t skip a generation, just check out a video Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich shot of his sons, Myles, 21, and Layne, 18, rocking the Ulrich house during quarantine with their very unique, super heavy instrumental take on a Beatles classic. According to Rolling Stone, the blazing cover of “Eleanor Rigby” from Revolver came about after Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff invited Ulrich to sit in on one of his company’s weekly fireside chats.

Realizing that nobody wanted to watch him a drum solo to close the broadcast, “it’s just kind of not the right moment for that type of thing,” he said, Ulrich tapped his sons to take his place. The lads, home from NYU for the summer due to the coronavirus, were pressed into service. After he asked them if they could record a song, they came back after a half hour with something very tasty.

“It was like this insane, three-minute Blue Cheer, crazy, garage-rock version of ‘Eleanor Rigby,’” proud papa Ulrich said. “Obviously, there’s been some incredible versions of ‘Eleanor Rigby’ along the way, but I’m pretty sure there’s never been one that had this kind of sound, this kind of feel, this kind of energy and madness to it. I was like, ‘You know what, boys? You done me proud.’”

The bass and drums version of the song, which has a Radiohead-meets-jazz-fusion feel to it, was shot by Ulrich and the results are pretty impressive. Watch the video below.
