Wale joined Trevor Noah for an appearance on The Daily Show Tuesday (Feb. 11). In addition to sitting down for an interview, Folarin served as the night's musical guest, where he performed a two-track medley off his 2019 Wow… That's Crazy album.
The D.C. native set the tone with his sharp album opener "Sue Me" alongside Kelly Price, which he began by paying tribute to the late Kobe and Gianna Bryant. "Sue me, I'm rooting for everybody Black," he rapped, with photos of Lamar Jackson, Zendaya, and Yara Shahidi running across the screen. He also performed "Love… (Her Fault)" without Bryson Tiller.
Noah was impressed that Wale has been able to build a strong fan base that ranges from Jerry Seinfeld to Barack Obama. "Fans were like, 'Can you do an Album About Nothing?' We got about eight hours of Jerry talking," Wale said of the underrated 2015 project.
"It's just about balance," he explained of his creative process. "I like to write in real time. I'll peek my head into pop-culture, what's going on in our community and then I get inspired and write. It's a combination of what's going on social media, outside in real time, sports, and a little bit of politics."
