Jack White and A Perfect Circle have made their stance on cellphone usage at concerts perfectly clear, but U2 are encouraging fans to make their cellular screens part of the show with a new augmented reality app.
The band’s “U2 eXPERIENCE” app will allow users to hold their phone up at forthcoming dates on the “xPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour” and point it at a giant LED wall that will be a part of the stage setup. The app will then provide a “specially curated audio visual experience emerging through your mobile device.”
Fans can also use the app at home to “get a taste of what’s coming up in the show” by pointing their phone at the band’s Songs of Experience album cover. The app is available now for both iOS and Android users.
Bono and the boys are currently gearing up for the aforementioned tour, which kicks off May 2 in Tulsa, OK. As previously reported, the band were recently conducting rehearsals in Laval, QC.
