Seven years in the waiting, release day for the sixth Strokes album is almost here. Before the band drops The New Abnormal this Friday (April 10), they shared one more single ahead of its first LP in seven years.
Those who enjoyed previous single “Bad Decisions” should be bopping along to the cheekily-titled “Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus,” another crisp rock ‘n roll track with likable ’80s affectations. This one rides a peppy synth beat and disco groove towards an agile chorus that’s straight out of the Strokes’ wheelhouse.
Lead vocalist Julian Casablancas croons through plenty of meta moments in his lyrics, calling out ’80s-inspired music, yearning for new friends, and even announcing a chorus and a break in the song.
Like the rest of The New Abnormal, “Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus” was was recorded at Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, Cali. and produced by Rick Rubin.
The new song certainly sounds like a potential single. For now though, “Bad Decisions” is faring pretty well: it’s sitting at No. 19 on Billboard‘s Alternative Songs chart, which measures radio play on U.S. alternative stations. The 19 spot marks its peak so far, and the best performance by a Strokes song on the chart since 2011.
