The Strokes Announce New Album ‘Reality Awaits’ for Summer 2026

On April 10, 2020, The Strokes released The New Abnormal, a record that has stood as their most recent studio effort for nearly six years. Today, April 6, 2026, the band officially confirmed that the long-standing drought is coming to an end with the announcement of their upcoming album, Reality Awaits.

The group shared the news via a 13-second teaser video, which features an aesthetic reminiscent of vintage car advertisements. The clip is underscored by a snippet of what appears to be new music, signaling a fresh sonic direction for the band. While a specific release date has not yet been set, the project is confirmed to arrive this summer.

The announcement follows a period of increased activity for the band, who have already been confirmed for several major festival lineups in 2026, including Bonnaroo, Shaky Knees, and Sea.Hear.Now. These appearances suggest a busy touring cycle to accompany the new release.

The news also arrives following public discourse regarding frontman Julian Casablancas and his creative focus. In a 2024 interview, the singer addressed his work with his side project, The Voidz, and his relationship with The Strokes. When asked about his perspective on the band’s legacy and his role within it, Casablancas noted that he continues to infuse his political views into their music, even if it isn’t always immediately apparent to the listener.

“No, because I think I put political thoughts now in Strokes songs, too. I always have to some degree. I definitely think a lot of Strokes fans don’t get that about it so much, which is maybe why I’ve kind of stepped away a little bit. But it’s a very cool day job that I’m honored to have, so I don’t feel negatively about it. If it was wasting so much of my time that I couldn’t do anything positive, then I would. But I don’t let it get to that point. At least I don’t think so. I could be lying to myself.”

With Reality Awaits, fans can look forward to seeing how these creative tensions and evolving perspectives manifest in the band’s latest chapter.
