Gracie Abrams has reflected on Taylor Swift’s huge ‘Eras Tour’ coming to an end, and said that the final show felt like “the last day of school”.

Abrams joined Swift for the final leg of the mammoth run of tour dates, and opened for the pop icon at the very last scheduled show, which took place in Vancouver, Canada on December 8.

Now, in a new interview, she has reflected on what it was like to join Swift for the dates and how it felt to see the shows come to an end.

“Everyone had been crying all day. It felt like the last day of school backstage,” she told Nylon. “Everyone was walking around with their [tour] books, signing each other’s books. We were all walking around with Sharpies.”

The tour ran for a combined total of 21 months across 149 shows, and marked a new high point for the singer, songwriter and guitarist. It also went on to break the record as the highest-grossing tour of all time, bringing in a reported $2.2billion (£1.73b) since it began.

Last December, at the tour’s midpoint, Swift made history when the tour became the first to gross $1billion (£796million). Prior to that, it was estimated that, once it had concluded, the tour would be the most lucrative in music history. In total, 10,168,008 people across the world attended the ‘Eras’ shows.

It isn’t just Abrams who reflected on what it was like to join Swift for the shows following the last gig either. As highlighted by MusicNews, backup dancer Kameron Saunders also weighed in on the feeling and said that he couldn’t stop crying after the Vancouver gig.

“I’m not quite ready with the proper words to encapsulate this entire experience and the past twi years of my life so guys PLEASE be patient with me as I navigate how best to do that …BUT what I can and am ready to do is say thank you to my Boss Lady,” Saunders’ caption on Instagram read.

“Taylor! My girl! You have steered the HELL out of this ship. So gracefully!! With poise, confidence, heart, passion, kindness, utter bravery and love! Every SECOND of this with you I felt seen, honoured, celebrated, valued, respected … babe, I would follow you anywhere at any time in any universe in EVERY lifetime,” the post continued. “It has been the honour of my life to have been at your side night after night! … I love you! Thank you!”

At the very last ‘Eras Tour’ gig, Swift was joined on stage by Abrams, and the two broke out duets of Abrams’ ‘I Love You, I’m Sorry’ and Swift’s ‘Last Kiss’, taken from her 2010 album ‘Speak Now’.

Around that same time, it was revealed that a book about the ‘Eras’ tour sold more than 800,000 copies in its first weekend of release.

In July, it was revealed that ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ was the biggest album of the year so far in the US, earning 4.66million equivalent album units in the first half of this year. It also became the first album by a woman to spend its first 12 weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.

The tour was also confirmed earlier today (December 18) as being the highest-grossing music tour of 2024 – beating off competition from Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, Madonna and more.

As for Gracie Abrams news, the singer made her SNL debut as a musical guest over the weekend, and went on to receive praise from the legendary Barbra Streisand after the appearance.
