“Own It” (Merky/Atlantic/Warner) by Stormzy, Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy is the first U.K. No. 1 single of 2020. It climbs 5-1 on the new Official Charts Company countdown, as Lewis Capaldi's Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (EMI/Universal) climbs back 3-1 on the album chart.
Stormzy's collaboration is in its sixth week on the singles list, and becomes his third U.K. chart-topper in 12 months, after last year's “Vossi Bop” and “Take Me Back To London,” the latter also with Sheeran. “Own It” records 57,000 for the week, including 6.6 million streams. It's Burna Boy's first No. 1, and Sheeran's ninth.
Capaldi is also on good form in the singles market, racing 12-2 with “Before You Go,” regaining the peak it reached in its second and third chart weeks last month. Dua Lipa also bounces back 14-3 with “Don't Start Now” (Warner), which spent its first three weeks at No. 2 in November, and Arizona Zervas' “Roxanne” (Sony) rebounds from No. 16 to a new peak of No. 4. Tones & I's “Dance Monkey” (Parlophone/Warner), which spent 11 weeks at the top from October to December, climbs back 20-5.
Harry Styles' “Adore You” (Columbia/Sony) jumps 26-7 to hit the top ten for the first time, in its fourth chart week. Endor's “Pump It Up” (Defected) climbs 36-8 and “This Is Real” (Polydor/Universal) by Jax Jones featuring Ella Henderson 44-9. Last week's No. 1, Ellie Goulding's cover of Joni Mitchell's “River” (Polydor/Universal), falls to No. 28.
Capaldi's album starts its seventh aggregate week at the summit, and fourth separate run. Its final sales tally for 2019 was 641,000 combined units, putting it at No. 1 for the year. Stormzy's Heavy Is the Head is up 5-2, as Rod Stewart's You're In My Heart (Rhino/Warner), No. 1 for the last three weeks, falls two places.
Sheeran's No. 6 Collaborations Project moves back 9-4 as Styles' Fine Line improves 8-5. D-Block Europe make the album top ten for the third time in 12 months as Street Trauma (D-Block Europe) debuts at No. 9.
