Quavo recently caught up with Billboard, opening up about how the current Coronavirus pandemic is impacting his life as a musician, how Migos are still finding ways to be productive while also practicing social distancing, what it was like working with Justin Bieber, what his best memory with Pop Smoke was, and what fans can expect from his new collaboration with BoohooMan.
Asked how he and the rest of Migos have been affected by the Coronavirus, Quavo tells Billboard that they are watching the news regularly and trying to keep up to date with everything going on, while also staying away from crowds and washing their hands.
“Of course, the business has slowed down because we perform in front of masses of people,” he explains. “Dropping music and all that, it’s at a standstill right now with us because we need to go out there and touch the people to push our albums to make our music work.”
As for how they are keeping busy while also social distancing, Quavo says that they have been trying to simplify their movements, going only to the studio to work on Culture III and back to their homes — where he plays Call of Duty for hours.
Quavo also chats about working with Justin Bieber on “Intentions,” noting that it’s “always a pleasure” working with him. “We come from two different backgrounds, but when we get in the studio, we got a lot of similarities,” Quavo shares. We’ve been friends for probably like five years now…we got some more records in the vault. We both respect each other and that’s my guy.”
Quavo is also asked to share his fondest memory with Pop Smoke, who was shot and killed in February at the age of 20. Recalling when they were in Milan together during Fashion Week to film their video for “Shake the Room” — which dropped yesterday – Quavo remembers sharing lots of laughs with Pop Smoke while riding around in a Ferrari doing donuts.
In the interview, Quavo teases his new collaboration with BoohooMAN, as well, calling them the first team that has allowed him to bring all of his ideas to life. “When I met the guys, all of them was like young and representing the culture and I just knew it was the team,” he adds of the BoohooMAN x Quavo collection, which launches April 8.
