Just like the rest of us, Neil Young is cooped up at home during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. But he’s got a half century of music to keep him company, so he’s decided to pass the time by live streaming some shows from his living room. The rock icon announced on Monday (March 16) that he’ll be streaming a series of shows filmed by his wife, actress Daryl Hannah.
“Because we are all at home and not many are venturing out, we will try to do a stream from my fireplace with my lovely wife filming,” he wrote on his Neil Young Archives site. “It will be a down-home production, a few songs, a little time together… we will be soon be [sic] announcing the first one right here at NYA in the Times.” At press time Young had not revealed when the series will begin.
Young has already taken a dive into the new social distance performing world, playing a rally for Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders on Monday night. Though Young had teased a tour with Crazy Horse in old arenas around the country for this year, the live stream series will have to do for now as Americans get used to the new, quarantined normal, which has resulted in the cancellation and postponement of virtually all touring and live events for the foreseeable future.
In the meantime, he’s also set a robust schedule of premieres of archival films for NYA subscribers, including SHUT IT DOWN on Tuesday (March 17), a documentary on the making of the Colorado album, with other debuts slated on a daily basis through the end of the month.
