Boogie Down Productions vet D-Nice isn’t the only one taking to social media to stay connected to their fans. On Saturday (March 21), DJ Premier threw a Instagram Live session on Saturday night as well. Although it was smaller, Preemo held his audience captive with vintage Gang Starr cuts, Beastie Boys and little anecdotes in between.
Lord Finesse, Def Jam Recordings co-founder Russell Simmons, Statik Selektah, Apathy and Ludacris were among the many who popped in to see Preemo hit the decks. It also happened to be the Hip Hop legend’s 53rd birthday, so naturally, he got plenty of birthday salutations along the way.
DJ Premier and D-Nice are among the growing list of artists using social media to entertain their fans as most of the world remains in self-quarantine. The coronavirus pandemic has brought normal life to a screeching halt, leading to the biggest shutdown the entertainment industry has ever seen.
To combat the devastating financial consequences, fans are encouraged to download their favorite artists’ albums, visit their Patreon accounts, buy merch and yes, tune into their Instagram Live sessions, especially those independent artists who depend on touring to make a living.
