Deion Sanders threw his full support behind Lil Wayne and his latest album, Tha Carter VI, calling the rapper “The GOAT!” in an Instagram Story post just days after the project was slammed by critics.

The University of Colorado Boulder football coach’s two-word message came as music outlets trashed the album.

Despite the backlash, Sanders stood by the New Orleans artist, continuing a friendship that’s grown over the past few years through shared appearances and mutual admiration.

Lil Wayne performed at a Colorado football event in 2023 and has remained close with Sanders and his players, including Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter.

The album, which dropped Friday (June 13), includes the track “Written History,” where Wayne name-drops both Sanders and Alabama coaching legend Nick Saban.

Sanders’ public praise wasn’t just a casual shoutout; it was a calculated show of loyalty during a rough release week for Lil Wayne.

Lil Wayne’s daughter, Reginae Carter, also defended her father’s art last weekend, saying the music was created to transcend social media trends.

“You say Carter VI is trash. That’s fine. That’s what you want to say,” she began. “But let me tell you something about my father and Carter VI. This is what I hate about you, kids. The fact that y’all can’t get on TikTok and do a f###### dance to it, that don’t mean that it’s trash, babes.”
