Lil Dicky claims his first No. 1 on Hot R&B Songs as “Freaky Friday,” featuring Chris Brown, ascends 3-1 on the chart dated April 21.
Brown, likewise, claims his first chart topper on the ranking, which started in 2012. The singer, though, owns second-most top 10s by any act in the chart’s brief history, with 24 visits to the region. Only The Weeknd, with 25 top 10s, has a better record.
Notably, Brown also owns five No. 1s on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, four which arrived before Hot R&B Songs began. His most recent leader is as a featured act alongside Drake and Lil Wayne on Nicki Minaj’s “Only.”
Back to “Friday”: The comedic tune keeps improving at radio, moving 20-16 on Rhythmic Songs and 34-32 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay.
The collaboration holds at No. 5 on R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs (31.8 million U.S. streams in the week ending April 12, according to Nielsen Music), after having reached a high No. 4.
Lil Xan X-Ceeds: Lil Xan earns his first top 10 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums as Total Xanarchy debuts at No. 8 with 27,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending April 12, according to Nielsen Music. The figure includes 14,000 in traditional album sales, making Xanarchy the second-best-selling R&B/hip-hop album the week, behind only Cardi B’s Invasion Privacy and its 103,000 sales start. Xanarchy contains the single “Betrayed,” a No. 28 hit on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in December.
‘Ric Flair’ Rises: On Rhythmic Songs, Offset and Metro Boomin each collect a first top 10 on the chart as “Ric Flair Drop” climbs 12-10 on the airplay tally. The collaboration ascends with a 9 percent gain in plays in the week ending April 15, according to Nielsen Music.
Ella Goes ‘Up’: Rising R&B singer Ella Mai inks her first top 10 hit on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay as “Boo’d Up” jumps up 15-10. The song, released DJ Mustard’s 10 Summers label, surges 15 percent in radio audience to 14 million in the week ending April 15, according to Nielsen Music. Airplay gains help the song reach a new high No. 8 on the Hot R&B Songs chart. Mai herself, meanwhile, climbs into the top 10 the Emerging Artists ranking for the first time.
