Kevin Gates becomes one of the first artists to take a crack at Fivio Foreign’s recently released single “Wetty” with his own blistering freestyle Monday (April 6).
Directed by Nicky Films, Gates stampedes his way through the AXL Beats-produced track with a barrage of haymakers, one aimed explicitly at Chicago producer Young Chop. While rapping in a cigar room, Gates raps: “I cut off a knee them made ’em dance, Chris Brown, Michael Jackson/ My heart goes out to Young Chop, in the industry they gon’ blackball him.”
In the last few weeks, Chop ignited a handful of beefs with the likes of 21 Savage, Meek Mill, French Montana, and more. Gates also pays homage to Kobe Bryant in the video by visiting a mural in honor of the newly named Hall of Famer, who died in a helicopter crash Jan. 26. “Rest in peace to the Black Mamba,” Gates chants in front of the artwork.
KG is coming off a great showing after the release of his 2019 sophomore album, I’m Him. The 17-track collection secured him the No. 4 slot on the Billboard 200.
