Although Kehlani was named in Lana Del Rey’s Instagram rant about double standards in the music industry last month, the Oakland singer never confronted Del Rey about it. But now, Kehlani has some words for the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter.

On Sunday (May 31), Del Rey shared a video of protestors in Los Angeles, seemingly unaware many of them have been getting doxxed and threatened by white supremacists and far-right groups.

Kehalni hopped on Twitter and politely — yet firmly — ordered Del Rey to take the video down, writing, “please remove your instagram post it’s dangerous as fuck and a very poor choice of moments to post. by all means protest, but DO NOT endanger people with your very massive platform. oh and turn your fuckin comments on man.”

She added, “it’s not about her don’t make it about her it’s about furthering endangering the lives of black people. it’s about responsibility.”

Del Rey ultimately removed the video from her Instagram account, which boasts over 16.5 million followers, but reposted an edited version of it shortly after.
The clip shows a black man with his fist in the air and holding a sign that reads, “No Justice, No Peace.” It then pans to a police car that’s been torched and littered with graffiti.

Kehlani responded again Twitter, writing, “I was told the post was deleted and that was my point so i deleted the tweet but i guess it’s not deleted it’s just reposted ? leaving it up on my story but hopefully if she gets enough dm’s she will take it completely down.”

So far, that clearly hasn’t worked.

Since the police killing of 46-year-old black man George Floyd, riots and protests have erupted across the United States. One of the officers involved in the incident, Derek Chauvin, was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter last week. All four officers have been fired, although the other three remain free.

However, that could possibly change soon. JAY-Z called Minnesota governor Tim Walz over the weekend and revealed Walz has agreed to hand the Floyd case over to Attorney General Keith Ellison.
