New York, NY – Grammy Award-nominated rapper J. Cole was one of several celebrities to secure a coveted courtside seat at the Lakers Vs. Knicks game on Wednesday (January 22). The cameras at Madison Square Garden were rolling as NBA legend LeBron James jogged off the court to greet the Dreamville Records co-founder.

In a clip posted by Bleacher Report, James quickly gave daps his famous Knicks fan before returning to the game. The Lakers, who James plays for as a power forward, went on to defeat the Knicks 100-92.

James is best known for his basketball career. In recent years, he’s taken steps to become more involved in Hip Hop. The self-proclaimed “Hip Hop historian” served as A&R on 2 Chainz’s 2019 album Rap or Go to The League. His HBO interview series The Shop often includes rappers and other significant Hip Hop figures.

In 2018, The Shop served as a platform for pop superstar Drake to speak candidly about his beef with Pusha T, following the bombshell revelation Pusha dropped on his diss track “The Story of Adidon” regarding Drake’s son.

Cole is a ball player himself, having played briefly during his time at St.John’s University in Queens, New York. Despite his loyalty to the home team, the 34-year-old musician has been name-dropping James for years, more recently on his song “Middle Child.”

The single, which is up for the 2020 Grammy for Best Rap Performance, is one of several nominations Cole received from the Grammy Association this year. Revenge of the Dreamers III is nominated for Best Rap Album. Dreamville recently dropped the deluxe edition of the album, adding a dozen previously unreleased tracks to the project.
